Yu (ゆ, 湯) means hot water. A cloth with a big ゆ hangs at the entrance of a sentō, Japan's neighbourhood public bath: when you see it, the bath is open. The header band carries the kanji 湯, also "hot water", between two of our original seigaiha wave crests (a Mojinami mark, not a family crest).
We drew it the way a noren curtain looks, with split panels, a header band and a seigaiha (青海波, "waves of the blue sea") wave border at the bottom. The slits are printed, not cut: this is a flat tapestry styled like a noren, not a real split curtain.
Designed in Tokyo by Mojinami. Printed on demand by our print partner. Blank tapestry sourced from China, printed, cut and sewn at a partner facility in the US. Currently available for US fulfillment.
